Recently, I am using least square error to do curve fit in matlab, but the function(lsqcurvefit) matlab offered is based on optimization algorithm, by starting with a guess vector of the regression coefficient, and doing the optimization iteration, until converge to some point. Does anyone know any other option for using least square error to do curve fit? thanks a million!

I have had good experience with lsqnonlin in matlab for the same purpose. You may also consider using the surrogate toolbox that is posted on this site, if you can use one of the available surrogates there for your curve fit.
